Installation Recommendations: This patch should be applied to all BCM50s and SRG50 impacted per Nortel Technical Bulletin 2006007430 BCM50 Time of Day Clock Slip. In general, BCM50R1s manufactured in August to October 2006 may have a crystal oscillator circuit of the wrong value resulting in a clock slip of up to 14 minutes per day. No adverse affects will result if this patch is applied to a non-affected BCM50R1.

Warning: It is necessary for this patch process to be allowed to run to completion, including the patch-initiated reboot, as low-level firmware is being re-written. If the patching process is interrupted before completion, the BCM50 may be rendered permanently inoperable.

The following issues are addressed:

1. BCM50R1 losing up to 14 minutes per day. 
   Resolves the BCM50 Time of Day Clock Slip as described in Nortel Technical Bulletin 2006007430.

2. The FS288 interface between a BCM50 main unit and a BCM50e expansion unit may experience bit errors with some cable lengths within the allowed range of 0m to 10m. This can lead to system slowdowns and lockups of TDM phones. The standard 1m shielded cable that is included with the BCM50e expansion unit is not affected. Random errors that occur at all cable lengths due to noise may also produce signaling and voice errors, although these are usually only noticeable in the /var/log/messages log. The FPGA update allows the interface to function correctly at all cable lengths from 0m to 10, as well as reducing noise susceptibility.
