IMPORTANT:
If either of the i2050 clients have been previously installed on your personal computer or the personal computers of your BCM50 users to work with BCM200, BCM400 or BCM1000 systems, then you will need to uninstall the client(s) and reinstall the equivalent client supplied with BCM50.

To remove the earlier version of the client, use the "Add/Remove Programs" feature on the user's computer. For more information, please refer to the client documentation.

Keycode Required

A keycode is required on the BCM50 in order to be able to use this application.

The i2050 Software Phone is an IP Telephony application that allows you to make calls over the LAN and WAN from your computer. The Software Phone provides classic telephony services, a local telephone Directory, easy access to CallPilot Caller ID information and multiple telephone lines or line appearances.

The i2050 Software Phone is supported on the following Operating Systems:

  • Windows XP Professional
  • Windows 2000 Professional
  • Windows 98 Second Edition

To make a call, you can dial with either your keyboard or your mouse. To answer a call, simply click a button. Instead of holding a telephone receiver to hear and speak to callers, all you need to do is wear a headset (the Nortel Networks USB Headset Adapter is recommended).

The i2050 provides the following features:

  • Quality of Service (QoS) and authentication
  • Automatic detection of call server location using DHCP
  • Slide out trays that provide access to frequently used features and services when out and a smaller interface when in
  • Viewable line status
  • Item lists for quick dial and call log access from both the main and system tray interface
  • Ability to customize the interface and directories
  • Multilingual interface
  • Programmable macro functions for programming lengthy dialing patterns
  • Hotkeys map the computer keyboard to application buttons
  • Can be operated from the Windows system tray, allowing the user to take and place calls without interrupting other work
  • Interfaces with TAPI applications such as Outlook and ACT!
  • USB Headset Adapter support for a controlled high quality audio environment
  • Support for G.723, G.729 and G.711 codecs for operation at a variety of network connection speeds

Note: After installing the i2050 you will find a folder called
C:\Program Files\Nortel Networks\ClientInstall\i2050 Software Phone. This folder contains all the installation files of the install. These files are not needed on the client PC and can be deleted.

i2050 QoS Service

If you are using Windows 2000, then check with your administrator to see if 802.1p Quality of Service (QoS) is supported on your network. If 802.1p QoS is supported on your network, and you are using Windows 2000, then to enable 802.1p with the i2050 Software Phone you must:

  • Install the Windows QoS Packet Scheduler
  • Install the Nortel Networks i2050 QoS Service

Note: You must have administrator privileges to install the Windows QoS Packet Scheduler. This is a Windows 2000 component; see Windows 2000 installation instructions for details.

Note: Administrator privileges are required to install the Nortel Network i2050 QoS Service.

If you have administrator privileges, the Nortel Networks i2050 QoS Service is installed as part of the i2050 Software Phone Installation.

If you do not have administrator privileges, then an administrator must install the Nortel Networks i2050 QoS Service for you using a separate installation which is downloaded here. The administrator should install the Nortel Networks i2050 QoS Service after both the Windows QoS Packet Scheduler and the i2050 Software Phone have been installed.
