Configuring CallPilot IMAP services

Desktop messaging e-mail clients use IMAP to retrieve messages. You can enable or disable CallPilot IMAP service and specify security options. For information about configuring IMAP servers for Email-by-Phone, see Adding and removing external e-mail servers.

You can set the following options for the IMAP server:

You may want to temporarily disable IMAP service in the event of a security breach.

To enable or disable IMAP service

Messaging > Internet Mail Clients

  1. In the IMAP section, do one of the following:

  2. To enable IMAP service, check Enable IMAP.

  3. To disable IMAP service, clear Enable IMAP.

  1. Click Save.

Caution! Disabling IMAP service prevents all desktop messaging users from receiving messages. When you disable IMAP service, all current connections from desktop messaging clients to the IMAP server are disconnected.

To set IMAP security options

Messaging > Internet Mail Clients

  1. In the IMAP section, check Enable IMAP with SSL port to encrypt communication between the CallPilot IMAP server and desktop messaging clients.

Note/Tip If you choose to enable SSL, ensure that user e-mail clients are also configured to use the same security options, including the correct port number.

  1. Select the required IMAP authentication options. You can select more than one option.

  2. Enable IMAP with Challenge-Response Authentication - Groupware clients use Challenge-Response authentication to send mailbox numbers and passwords over the network. If you disable this option, it prevents integrated e-mail clients and CallPilot Player from establishing additional connections. Any existing connections are left intact.

  3. Enable IMAP with Plain Password Authentication - Check this option to password protect the IMAP server. This option is required for Internet clients. By default this option is checked. Passwords are sent as unencrypted. If you disable this option, Internet e-mail and My CallPilot clients cannot establish additional connections. Any existing connections are left intact.

Note/Tip To prevent users of supported Internet mail clients from establishing more than one connection with the CallPilot server, disable IMAP with plain password authentication.

  1. Click Save.
