Any version in between is an Avaya internal release. Rel 1.1: GA Factory Released Globally Rel 1.23: Released Globally - not implemented in the factory Rel 1.3: Released Globally ================================================================================================================================== AUTHOR: Nick Petrescu ================================================================================================================================== This package contains the latest firmware updates and installation instructions for the Avaya CallPilot 1006r server. It is critical you DO NOT utilize or source, from Intel or any other 3rd party source, updates, outside this specific package. Failure may render the server inoperable. INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE: - Board Management Controller Update BMC54 ( version OpCode 0.54) - BIOS54 (version S5500.xxx.xx.xx.0054.xxxxxxxxxxxx) - Management Engine Update ME112 (version 1.12.xxxx) - Sensor Data Record/FRU Update FUR24 (version 0.24) - RAID Firmware Update 0746 (version OPROM v1.40.92-0746) - Hot swap Backplane Firmware Update 216 (version 2.16) - SLP String Updater for Windows Activation (this is the Windows activation string - no version number) ================================================================================================================================== Prerequisites ====================================================================================================================================== DO NOT install the firmware update package unless the following mandatory minimum updates are already installed. Failure to observe the minimums may render the server inoperable or irreparable. These updates are part of the 1006r Firmware package 1.1 which is the GA (General Availability) FW release and should have been already installed in the factory. !!! If the system does not meet the prerequisites below, STOP and contact Avaya Customer support for further instructions !!! The 1006r server must have the minimum following FW vintage before proceeding: - Board Management Controller Update BMC49 (version OpCode 0.49) - BIOS48 (version S5500.xxx.xx.00.0048.xxxxxxxxxxxx) - Management Engine Update ME111 (version 1.11.xxxx) - Sensor Data Record/FRU Update SDR/FUR22 (version 0.22) - RAID Firmware Update 0665 (version OPROM v1.40.62-0665). Also ensure the RAID is not split when performing the FW upgrade. - Hot Swap Backplane(HSC) 211 Firmware Update (version 2.11) - SLP String flashed for Windows Activation (Windows should be activated before this FW upgrade is performed) * The BIOS can be checked in System BIOS Setup main screen by pressing F2 during POST or running the Avaya BIOSFW check utility located in c:\Program Files\Intel\FlashUpdt directory on your 1006r server. * The rest of the system FW can be checked by going into System Management/System Info in System BIOS Setup by pressing F2 during POST or by running the BIOSFW Check Utility as provided by Avaya in c:\Program Files\Intel\FlashUpdt directory on your 1006r server. * The RAID FW version can be read on the first screen (as the sole displayed data) to which appears after pressing CTRL+G during POST (Power On Self Test) or within Windows Web Console Adapter properties screen. * The SLP String validity is checked by observing if the Windows 2003 OS is still active. Your Windows 2003 OS is not activated if the following conditions are true: - The Operating System will deny login with a message that Windows must be activated - It will display a set of keys beside the time applet in the lower right corner of the screen indicating that the Activation will expire in a certain number of days. For further information in reference to checking firmware revisions, refer to the 1006r NTP's for detailed instructions. ====================================================================================================================================== Update Instructions ====================================================================================================================================== 1. Press F2 to go to System BIOS Setup or CTRL+G for RAID BIOS Setup during system POST (Power On Self Test) or run the Firmware Check utility called BIOSChk.bat located in c:\Program Files\Intel\FlashUpdt folder. Print the results and identify which portions of the 1006r firmware require updates. NOTE: It was observed that on some servers BIOSChk.bat reports an error. Please refer to Known Issues section for workaround details. 2. Download the Update package from the Avaya Support website 3. Place the zip file onto the Temp directory on your PC 4. Extract the files onto the ROOT directory of an empty USB flash drive (minimum size is 64MB). update will not work if the files are not place on the ROOt directory. 5. Power up/Restart the 1006r and press F6 to go to the boot menu 6. Select from the menu to boot to the Internal EFI shell 7. Allow the system to detect the USB drive. 8. Press Q to exit to EFI Shell prompt. 9. At EFI Shell command prompt run (type the script name then enter) the following scripts IN THE STRICT ORDER SHOWN BELOW. Each script will force a system reboot at the end. Press any key when the message "Enter "Q" to quit, any other key to continue" appears. Each time follow steps 5-8 to go back to EFI shell and continue with the rest of the scripts Available scripts: - bmc54.nsh - bios54.nsh - me112.nsh - sdr24.nsh - raid0746.nsh - hsc216.nsh (Note: You will be asked to confirm the upload from 2.XX to 2.16. Enter "Y" to continue) - slp.nsh ====================================================================================================================================== Cautions ====================================================================================================================================== - The order of Updating the Firmware is extremely important, as stated previously. Failure to exercise caution may induce system instability or server damage. - Some updates take as long as 20 minutes to complete (example is the Hot swap backplane FW update) - It is recommended you execute the firmware updates while the server is plugged into a UPS (uninterruptible power supply).A power loss while the firmware is being updated could lead to the server being damaged. ====================================================================================================================================== Known Issues ====================================================================================================================================== - A popup notification may appear one time only in Windows 2003 during Windows logon. An Event will be logged in Windows Event Viewer and CallPilot Event Log after the FW has completed, indicating "Controller ID:0, No Response from Enclosure: 1". If encountered please ignore and close the popup window. - On some systems BIOSChk.bat reports the following error "One-Boot Flash Update Utility Ver 9.70 Build 8 Copyright (c) Intel Corporation 2003-2009 *ERROR* Failed to communicate with BMC" To fix the issue run C:\Program Files\Intel\Selview\imbdriver\x86\install.cmd. No reboot required. Then run BIOSChk.bat again. ====================================================================================================================================== Firmware Package Release notes: ====================================================================================================================================== The original Intel individual release notes are provided on a separate folder and should ONLY be used for reference only.
