======================================================================== Nortel Networks Created: 05/27/2002 OTM/HP OpenView(HP OV) Network Node Manager(NNM) Integration Package README for New Device/Agent: Optivity Telephony Manager for Meridian 1, Version 1.0 ======================================================================== OTM/HP OV Integration PACKAGE SUMMARY: ===================================== This document contains installation instructions and information about new features and known restrictions for HP Open View integration files(Exe and MIB) when used with the Optivity Telephony Manager (OTM) for Meridian 1. These installation instructions are not included in the HP OpenView documentation. This OTM/HP OV Alarm Integration package is required for HP OV NNM 6.x releases. DEVICES SUPPORTED: ==================== Optivity Telephony Manager 1.1 or above for Meridian 1. NOTES FOR INSTALLATION: ======================= OTM integrates with HP OV NNM release 6.x or above. OTM must be installed on a separate machine from HP OV PC because co-residency is not supported for NNM and OTM on same PC. OTM/HP OpenView Alarm Integration package consists of:- OTM Alarm MIB (OtmOpenAlarms.mib) OTM Status Monitor (OtmStMon.exe) Copy the OtmStMon.exe to the Openview/bin($OV_BIN) directory. Copy the OtmOpenAlarms.mib to the directory $OV_SNMP_MIB/Vendor/NortelNetworks (Creating the directory if necessary) Installing on PC: ================= To install the OTM/HP OV Alarm Integration package on a Windows NT PC:- (The Following configuration procedures shall be performed while NNM is running) 1. Select "Options->Load/Unload MIBs:SNMP" from the Main menu. 2. Select "Load" from the pop-up dialog. 3. Open the "OtmOpenAlarms.mib" file. The OTM Alarm MIB definitions are now loaded into the NNM's MIB database Event Configuration: =================== After the OTM Alarm MIB is loaded, actions need to be defined through the NNM Event Configuration for each OTM event. 1. Select "Options->Event Configuration" from the main menu. 2. Locate and select "otmOpenAlarmEp" from the list of enterprise. There are 7 events defined for the otmOpenAlarmEp enterprise. For each Event, the customer needs to configure the desired actions to be taken if such an event occurs. 3. For Ex, for the OTM Major alarm event (otmOpenAlarmMajor, specific 2), double click on the corresponding entry on the list . A "Modify Events" dialog will be brought up. 4. Under the "Event Message" item, configure the following: 5. Actions: Select "Log and Display in category: Status Alarms". This will enable the display of the incoming event messages in the NNM Alarm Browser. 6. Severity: Select 'Major" for this Event. 7. Event Log Message: Enter the following default text: "OTM event $o (enterprise:$e generic:$G specific:$S),$# args: $*" The message displayed will show the contents of the event message. Note: The Customer is allowed to display any message he chooses in the Alarm Browser. Legend for $variables: $o - Print the name (Object identifier) of the received event as a string of numbers. $e - Print the trap enterprise as an Object ID string of numbers. This number is implied by the event object identifier for non-SNMPv1 events $G - Print the trap's generic trap number. This number is implied by the event object identifier for non-SNMPv1 events. $S - Print the trap's specific trap number. This number is implied by the event object identifier for non-SNMPv1 events. $# - Print the number of attributes in the event. $* - Print all the attributes as seq name(type): Value strings, where the seq is the attribute sequence number. 8. If the customer also wants the color of the object on the map to change to reflect the occurance of the incoming event, he can also invoke the OTM Status Monitor(OtmStMon.exe) by specifying a call to it under the Actions item. If the OTM Status Monitor is not called, then the color of the object displayed on the network map will not change for the incoming events. Network Map Set-up: =================== 1. Locate the appropriate place in the Network Map for the OTM server and then select "Edit->Add Object" from the main menu. 2. Select "Computer" from the Symbol classes from the pop-up "Add Object Palette". 3. Select and Drag the standard "WindowsNT" icon from the Symbol Subclasses onto the appropriate location on the Network Map. 4. An "Add Object" dialog will then appear. Fill in the "Label" field. 5. Select "IP Map" under "Object attributes" and press the "set Object Attributes" button. 6. Select and fill in the enteries for "Hostname","IP Address" and "Subnet Mask". 7. Then click "OK" to return to the "Add Object" dialog and fill in the "Selection Name" field with the same value as that of the Hostname. 8. Hit "OK" and the object is created on the Map. OTM Web Server Access Configuration: ==================================== The customer can also configure the Management URL to access the OTM Server by providing an address(IP Address or the DNS name) of the OTM Server in "ManagementURL" field and setting "isHTTPSupported" to true under "General Attributes" in the "Object Properties" Dialog for an object on the Network Map. OTM Status Monitor(OtmStMon.exe): ================================= The OTM Status Monitor enables the customer to change the color of the OTM object on the Network Map to reflect the current status of the server. In addition, a message will also be logged onto the HP OV NNM Alarm Browser to indicate the status change. OtmStMon makes use of the HP OV ovevent application. OtmStMon takes in 2 parameters – an object’s selection name and a textual representation of the new status (e.g ‘Critical’, ‘Normal’). If ovevent cannot locate an object on the current Network Map with the specified selection name, an error message will be displayed. Therefore, if an OTM object is not defined in the Network Map, OtmStMon should not be invoked for an event. The invocation format for OtmStMon is as follows: OtmStMon Where - HP OV NNM’s unique selection name for an object item on the Network Map - one of the following textual strings: “Unknown”, “Normal”, “Warning”, “Minor”, “Major”, “Critical”, “Restricted”, “Testing”, “Disabled”, “Managed”, “Unmanaged”. Starting OTM Web Applications ----------------------------- To access the OTM Server from NNM. highlight the OTM object on the Network Map and then select "Tools->Web Browser->Server Home Page" from the top menu.
